ZETO ART prensents a solo exhibition of Yorgos Yatromanolakis at FOTOFEVER 2019.

 

Yorgos Yatromanolakis lives and works between Athens and Crete. He works on long-term photography projects and turns them into books, experimenting with storytelling, materials and design. His work has been presented and distinguished in Greece and abroad, among others at PhotoEspaña, Festival Circulation(s), Aperture Gallery, Mattatoio – Roma, Belfast Photo Festival, Voies Off – Arles, Athens Photo Festival, Felifa Festival, Tbilisi Photo Festival, Istanbul Photobook Festival, Odesa Photo Days, Month of Photography Los Angeles etc. He has received the Foam Talents 2020 Award and he is a fellow of the Artworks artist support program. He is co-founder of artist-run space Zoetrope, in Athens and contributor editor of Phases Magazine.

"The Splitting of the Chrysalis & the Slow Unfolding of the Wings" is inspired by the anthropological rites of passage that mark the transitions from one phase of life to another. Through this work, Yorgos Yatromanolakis attempts to capture in a poetic way the cycle of an internal process of metamorphosis. Due to an unforeseen return to his homeland, he finds himself isolated into a dystopian reality, confronting his traumatic past and memories. Gradually distancing himself from anything intimate and familiar and through his photographic practice, he creates a new world, a mysterious and borderline place. Within this liminal place, metaphorically seen as a chrysalis cocoon, everything is in flux. Being is in a state of becoming in betwixt and between of what had happened and what is about to happen. Within the narrative of the book, this experience is intertwined with the biological processes of transformation in nature, which are taking place in parallel and with which the photographer coexists and identifies. Most of the photographs are shot in between night and day,when the liminal light visually generates a peculiar and revealing condition of transformation and illusion. The images are enclosed in the book as notes of an experience embarking from deconstruction and “splitting” to reach out to fulfillment and “flying” and as a whole they set the points of a course towards a new existential reality.

今年，ZETO ART将于巴黎FOTOFEVER摄影博览会呈现希腊摄影师Yorgos Yatromanolakis个展：“The Splitting of the Chrysalis & the Slow Unfolding of the Wings”（蛹绽裂，翅徐展）。

 

 

艺术家Yorgos出生在希腊南部的克里特岛，这一系列作品来源于艺术家一次偶然的回乡，那一次他在岛上呆了四年的时间，完全被隔离在岛上的乡村之中，艺术家开始面对自己创伤的过去，他的回忆，和他自己。

 

渐渐的，通过在自然界中的徘徊，驻留，他在体内创造了一个可以想象的行动领域，一个充斥着变革活力的居间之地，一个成长的地方。

 

艺术家屈服于这空间的流动，屈服于这一场矛盾的，宇宙起源的仪式。他面对着自己最神秘的一面，他在寻找一个心的现实，在那里感知存在。这些照片成为了他记录生活的一部分，这些记录通过自己的体验构成，它试图捕捉一个内部蜕变过程的周期。

 

这些照片拍摄于黑夜与白昼的过渡时段，黎明，或是黄昏。这些风景被神秘的光线笼罩，呈现出一个困于梦想与幻想之间的世界。黑暗和微弱的光明，如同茧的内部，一个封闭的空间，一切却是流动的。

 

 

在拍摄过程中，艺术家尝试了很多人工照明和长时间曝光。每次在黑暗中拍摄，都如同在黑夜里打开一道明亮的裂缝，通向一个神秘的，肉眼不可感知的世界。Yorgos尝试不同的相机，镜头，融合不同的摄影和处理方法，这些融合的非传统的方法，正是他寻找一种非常规叙事的理想材料。

 

这个摄影项目是本能的开始，他认为变形的想法是通过观察对自热的认同而产生的。但是他的作品中有许多神秘的元素，在某种程度上，他觉得有必要去思考，这并非把他的工作放在一个合理的背景之下，更重要的是需要了解他是谁，以及如果在工作中发展。他通过生物学，神话学，分析心理学和人类学来完善他对于整个项目的编辑。

 

 

 

蝶的蜕变是人的进化的隐喻，对于Yorgos来说，这隐喻直指他在自己黑暗时期的生活的变化。2018年，由于国家的经济崩溃，一场史无前例的动乱在希腊爆发，青年骚乱席卷了整个希腊社会，挑战了现有的社会和政治体系的各个方面。当同样身为青年的艺术家被卷入这些时间的时候，很快就明白了这件事情的历史意义，并开始摄影，他有一种预感，旧的系统正在慢慢溶为碎片，一个新的世界正在出现，他的创作与国家的重生相伴。
